The next International Conference for Young Scientists and the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Global Young Academy (GYA) will be hosted in Chateau Montebello, Quebec, Canada, from 25-29 May, 2015. The Conference and AGM is the annual key event of the GYA, and the main meeting in which the members can work together on the goals of this global organization.
IAP, the global network of science academies, is providing financial support for this event.
Approximately 200 members of the Global Young Academy will be joined by 25-50 distinguished individuals representing the most important global institutions focused on science and innovation. About half of them will be from developed countries and the other half from developing ones.In addition, delegates of National Young Academies (NYAs) and further young scientists from Canada and other North American countries are invited. The conference theme, ‘Innovation for Sustainable Globalization’, provides a rallying point for outstanding young scientists (typically within ten years from their PhD) from around the world to consider new mechanisms and initiatives to support innovation for sustainable development in an increasingly global world. Young researchers are the key innovators and creators, providing the intellectual capital needed to grow a strong national research and innovation system. When viewed against the spectrum of emerging challenges faced by nations world wide – rapid economic globalization, ageing populations, increased demand for highly skilled labour, and the expansion of systems of higher education – the necessity of nurturing and promoting young researchers seems more urgent than ever.
