IAP joined the Sustainable Health Equity Movement (SHEM) since its launch in July 2020. On the occasion of the 74th
World Health Assembly, SHEM released the 'Sustainable worldwide collaboration to respond to ongoing inequities
and health emergencies' a statement that stresses the importance of recognising COVID-19 vaccines as a global public

During 2021
World Immunization Week, IAP released an infographic
to shed some light on the different types of COVID-19 vaccines, how they are developed, and how they work, and 5
bite-size videos that present aspects of vaccine science, regulation and the ‘infodemic’ in manageable
nuggets of information.
Share our new communications and outreach tools to explain how #VaccinesWork. Some 100 academy leaders,
Fellows and members of communications teams attended the
IAP Global Webinar on Countering Vaccine Hesitancy. This online evented highlighted how academies, as
trusted and credible voices - can counter vaccine hesitancy, tackle false and misleading claims being made by
anti-vaxxers and others, and promote a culture of trust in the COVID-19 vaccines that are increasingly becoming

The beginning of a new year offers us the chance to reflect on the challenges that 2020 has thrown our way and those that still lie ahead. Read the news about IAP's programmes and project and do not miss new publications, opportunities and updates from our network.
YPL alumni from all over the world are on the frontline of the global fight against the novel coronavirus. In July, the 2019 cohort hosted a Global Ward Round, and the engagement centered around country responses to COVID-19 and presentations were made from alumni from Ghana, Italy, India, Mongolia, Morocco, Nepal, Philippines, South Africa, and Thailand.
December saw the launch of the IAP Young Physician Leaders Alumni Steering Committee. The peer-support network of emerging leaders working in healthcare around the world gets stronger: the committee members will meet on a monthly basis with aims to foster cooperation among alumni and increase recognition of the programme, as well as transfer knowledge and experience to aspiring physician leaders.
The IAP COVID-19 Expert Group, a Group charged with responding to inquiries routed through academies related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic across a broad range of health, social, environmental and other direct and indirect consequences. It brings a wealth of multi-disciplinary expertise to academies in all member countries, and through it IAP aims to facilitate the sharing of ideas, information and recommendations among countries and regions to support the evidence-based response to and recovery from the pandemic.
The first months of 2020 marked a turning point not only for the scientific community, but for the whole world. We have seen the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many academies stepped up to provide evidence-based advice to national governments and international institutions. This global crisis has been central to our work, but we also launched new projects, publications, a brand new website, and communication campaigns that engaged not only our network, but the wider public.
