The IAMP Executive Committee met recently in Rome, Italy, hosted by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in conjunction with the joint meeting of the IAP – the global network of science academies – and the InterAcademy Council (IAC).

The occasion was organized primarily to discuss the need to address a common vision for the three networks of academies and how to use their combined strengths to have a greater impact.

An agreement was reached in Rome to work towards developing a common body – to be known as the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP – thus retaining a well recognized and respected acronym) which will include the three networks and the four regional networks AASSAEASACIANASand NASAC).

The IAMP EC agenda focused principally on the activities carried out by the EC Working Committees.

The Membership Committee recommended the applications received from the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology, Morocco, and the Georgian Academy of Medical Sciences, thus bringing IAMP’s membership to a total of 75.

The Strategic Planning Committee presented its near-final draft of the SPII which will now be finalized too incorporate comments made during the meeting and circulated to the membership.

The Projects and Studies Committee is organizing a workshop on ‘Evaluating Traditional Medicine’ to be hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering later this year.

The Statements Committee will be addressing the issue of Horizon Scanning for topical issues of common interest to IAMP member academies. In addition, a working group will be formed to globalize a statement on ‘One Health’ drafted by theFederation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM), which understandably has a focus prevalently on Europe.

The YPL & Education Committee will be organizing the global Young Physician Leaders programme once more this year in conjunction with the World Health Summit  (WHS) scheduled for October in Berlin, Germany.
