Background
In October 2019, the first World Young Scientist Summit was successfully held in Wenzhou. More than 800 guests from 85 countries around the world, including Nobel Prize winners, overseas academicians, representatives of young scientists and leaders of international science and technology organizations, attended the summit to talk about scientific and technological innovation and the social responsibility of young scientists.
In his 2020 New Year address, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said: “Youth is the hope of the world today. The world needs a younger generation. You should speak up, keep your ideals, break the confines, and move forward, I am encouraged by your passion and determination. You seek to play the right role in shaping the future. I support you, the United Nations supports you, and belongs to you.”
At present, the global spread of the COVID-19 epidemic has brought great challenges to the world. Great changes are taking place in the world public health system, the international order, and social dynamics. Youth, as the future of the world, needs to share ideas and unite for the building of a community with shared future for the mankind and creating a better future for human development. In order to better implement the UN SDGs by 2030, build a better platform for international cooperation in innovation and technology, and serve local scientific and technological development and industrial innovation, the International Forum of Biodiversity, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, and Biosecurity (4Bio) is initiated within the framework of the "World Young Scientist Summit 2020".
The objective of this session is to bring together global leaders in life sciences to understand new ways to overcome the barriers and threats to biological harmony on our planet that benefits all of the humanity. Our panel consists of a diverse range of researchers, entrepreneurs and policymakers that will discuss how to protect biodiversity, avoid threats and maximize positive effects from it through conducting international collaborative projects that can identify new compounds for treating human disease and sustain local communities. There will be case study presentations on the value of neglected species with life-saving bioactive properties, as well as review of political and economic tools to harness biological resources for the future of the planet.

At the onset of the Decade of Action to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), COVID-19 has disrupted the world. Climate change, biodiversity loss, fragile health systems, dwindling economies, and social disintegration could be exacerbated by the response to the pandemic. In this special session, we hope to jointly explore cooperation in Biodiversity and biosecurity and other fields through dialogue between Europe and Asia. The topics are set as follows:
○ Pandemics as a response of the disrupted ecosystem;
○ International, regional and national policies for biodiversity protection;
○ Development of the unified biodiversity surveillance mechanisms;
○ Biosecurity, open science, and common responsibility of global researchers;
○ Development and utilization of underground space in ancient building area;
○ Do-It-Yourself Biology and Genetic modification: risks and opportunities;

Biotechnology and Biomedicine
Time: 16:45-18:30 PM 11st September, 2020 (Beijing time, GMT+8)
To create new paradigms for conservation based on the ecosystem service of drug discovery, partnerships are needed among scientists to identify species and isolate compounds, social scientists to assess community needs and ensure community empowerment, and policy makers to produce legislation to guide protection and to develop models for sustainable agriculture and research involving modern biotechnology and chemistry. Here we need to create a common platform for:
○ collecting, cataloguing, and curating the traditional knowledge;
○ collecting evidences from existing peer reviewed academic literature;
○ make recommendations for new drug discovery based on acquired information from the traditional knowledge and existing research;
○ creating a comprehensive searchable database of the collected traditional medicine information with links to existing research publications;
○ examining and curating existing national and international policies and intellectual property laws regarding discovery and use of medicinal compounds/species in different countries; conservation policies and laws for using the natural products;
○ establishing the connection with traditional/natural medicine industry for potential collaboration with research (e.g. to develop a new research funding scheme);
○ understanding the traditional medicines and pseudomedicines “market” in various geographic areas (geography, species) and its’ impact on habitats, species, and humans.
○ exploration of the new and existing sustainable gateways of natural medicines into the pharma, food and cosmetics.
