In parallel with its sister project on global policymaking, IAP-Research’s three-year project “Harnessing SEM to address Africa’s challenges” is progressing well, as it explores how African academies can better support the implementation of the SDGs and the continental plan for STI, STISA-2024.
Generously hosted by the Nigerian Academy of Sciences, the third meeting of the international working group focused on further developing programmes on science leadership, engaging the African science diaspora and building links with the AU and its institutions, as well as other pan-African bodies. Four grants have been awarded to support regional cooperation on STISA-2024 priorities, with lead academies the Nigeria Young Academy, the Morocco Hassan II Academy, South Africa Young Academy and Uganda Academy working on women in science, wealth creation, food security and health in cities, respectively.
