The Workshop will be organised as a joint collaboration by NASAC, EASAC and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina as well as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union Commisison (AUC), with funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The Workshop aims at sharing knowledge and experiences in the use of agricultural biotechnology towards the transformation of Africa.Objectives of the Workshop are:
To initiate a dialogue between scientists and policy-makers among stakeholders that will lead to the drafting of the NASAC policymakers’ booklet on Agricultural Biotechnology for Africa.
To support the development of science-based advice on Agricultural Biotechnology for Africa by the NASAC, with special input by the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the European Academies Science Advisory Council.
To establish relationships and provide evidence to African policy-makers and other stakeholders in Africa working in the area of Green Biotechnology.
To develop working partnerships between NASAC and the African Union Commission and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, on issues that are of critical importance to the continent.
To contribute to the dialogue between African and European scientists and policy-makers working in the area of agricultural biotechnology.
