Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences
2007
The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences associate the country's academies in the natural sciences (SCNAT), humanities and social sciences (SAGW), medical sciences (SAMW) and technical sciences (SATW), as well as the two foundations for Technology Assessment (TA-SWISS) and Science et Cité as centres of competence. Through a large number of national and regional/cantonal scientific commissions and societies, the umbrella association and its members are firmly anchored in Switzerland's scientific community across institutions and disciplines. This collective expertise is used to advise policymakers and to engage in a dialogue with society at regional, national and international level. The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences are also involved in the promotion of young researchers, first and foremost in the fields of mathematics, informatics, natural science and technology (MINT). Internationally, the science policy commitment of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences aims to strengthen Switzerland's location for science and research. With an experience in scientific policy advice, they support various networks and processes, primarily in Europe, for the scientific underpinning of policy decisions of importance for Switzerland. Finally, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences is engaged to strengthen ethics and human rights in science.
