2025 IAP LEADERSHIP ELECTIONS and MEMBERSHIP ENDORSEMENT
Each designated voting representative of each Academy will receive a unique and secure voting link via email.
Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the IAP Secretariat at iap@twas.org
Each designated voting representative will be requested to select their preferred candidates according to the following ballots:
- Ballot 1: Co-Chairs from Low- and Middle-Income Countries
Three (3) positions available
- Ballot 2: Co-Chairs from High-Income Countries
Three (3) positions available
- Ballot 3: Members of the Advisory Committee
Five (5) positions available
- Ballot 4: Capacity Building Committee
Nine to twelve (9-12) positions available
- Ballot 5: Policy Advice Committee
Nine to twelve (9-12) positions available
- Ballot 6: Communication, Education and Outreach Committee
Nine to twelve (9-12) positions available
The election results will be determined by simple majority vote, with candidates ranked based on the number of votes received. Appointments will then be made as follows:
- The top three (3) candidates elected from each Co-Chair group (Low- and Middle-Income Countries and High-Income Countries) will be appointed to the IAP Board.
- The top five (5) candidates elected to the Advisory Committee will be appointed accordingly.
- Between nine (9) and twelve (12) candidates will be appointed to each of the three Programmatic Committees. If the vote counts among candidates are relatively close, the cut-off will be set at twelve (12) members. However, if there is a significant drop in the number of votes, particularly between the 9th, 10th, or 11th ranked candidate and those immediately following, then the cut-off will be applied at the point where that numerical gap occurs.
Please note that, as voting is based on simple majority, the final composition of the elected bodies may not reflect gender balance, disciplinary diversity, or geographical representation. To help promote a balanced and inclusive election outcome, we strongly encourage voting representatives to consider these factors when selecting their preferred candidates.
Rules Regarding Multiple Elections
- If a candidate is elected to more than one Governing Body, appointment to the higher-ranking body will take precedence. The hierarchy of the IAP governing bodies is as follows:
- IAP Board
- Advisory Committee
- Programmatic Committees
- If an individual is elected to more than one Programmatic Committee, the Nominations and Elections Committee will assign them to the Committee where they received the highest number of votes. Only in cases where the vote counts are very close will the Committee consider additional criteria (such as gender balance, expertise, and geographical representation within the same Committee). The vacated seat will then be offered to the next eligible candidate, based on the number of votes received.
- In the event of a tie, the Nominations and Elections Committee will resolve it based exclusively on considerations of balance including gender, disciplinary expertise, and geographical representation, across all Governing Bodies.
- If two or more individuals from the same Academy or the same country are elected to the same Governing Body, preference shall be given to the candidate who receives the highest number of votes. The remaining candidate(s) from that Academy or country will be deemed ineligible to serve concurrently on the same body. In the case of Academies with a global reach (e.g., the Global Young Academy (GYA) or the World Academy of Arts and Sciences (WAAS)), the candidate’s country of residence will be used to determine eligibility.

These Academies have successfully completed a
