Biography

Dr. Atilola is a medical practitioner and a psychiatrist. He is a Fellow of the Medical College of Psychiatrists of Nigeria and a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians- being the highest medical qualification attainable in the African region. He also had complementary training in different aspects of mental-health services outside of Nigeria. He is an Alumnus of the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University, Rotterdam Netherlands. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Behavioural Medicine of the Lagos State University College of Medicine and a Consultant Psychiatrist to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. Dr. Atilola has been involved in the design of mental health services for the Lagos State Government as well as a few multinational NGOs. Dr. Atilola is widely published with over 60 of his publications. His main research interest is in the field of epidemiology and innovative mental-health services for children, youth and women. He has been involved in the design of mental health services for multinational outfits, a recent example being the grief-counselling services for victims of terrorist attacks organised by the Muritala Muhammed Foundation. He is also a lead consultant to the Lagos State Government on research and provisioning of mental health services to youth in juvenile justice detention. Dr. Atilola is a recipient the Edger Luke prize of the Faculty of Psychiatry of the West African College of Physicians; a co-founder of the International Child Mental Health Study Group, and an elected member of the Nigerian Young Academy (of Science).
