DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
In her capacity as chemistry professor, Ghada Bassioni has made significant contributions to science and engineering and was recognized with several awards on a national, regional and international level. She is engaged in many IAP institutions: She is an alumna of the GYA, where she served twice on the Executive Committee, she was an elected bureau member of IUPAC 2020-2024 and is a member of the NCPAC since 2016. Ghada has also been honoured as an ISC fellow since 2023. Through her work as Professor and Scientific Selection Committee member of the Egyptian governmental funding agency STDF and later as the Erasmus NEO in Egypt, she is knowledgeable about current and emerging topics in science, science systems, and the evolving global science-policy landscape fostered by her current position as the provost of a German Egyptian University. She has extensive international and national experience, having worked and lived in Egypt, Germany, the UAE and the US, having attended many conferences worldwide and built a large network through the GYA, IUPAC, ISC, AAS, Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Falling Walls in Berlin and European Forum Alpbach.


EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP,NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
Ghada Bassioni was a member of the Global Young Academy (2013-2018) and it's Executive Committee from 2014-16, and co-led the Women in Science working group for three years. She has demonstrated leadership qualities in her professional capacity: as a professor, she has organized many scientific and gender related conferences and workshops for which she secured external funding. In the GYA, she led a North South Interdisciplinary Research on Molecular current wires & to?the?purpose chemistry. She secured funding through the GCRF with the University of Oxford and build a highly soffisticated laboratory. She has led the project Energy Efficiency Measures in 27 Egyptian Public Universities funded by KfW and supervised by the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities. She has worked for funding agencies like the Egyptian Science and Technology Development Fund for 10 years, and was a National Erasmus+ Officer for one year before taking on the position as Provost of Saxony Egypt University, where she has academic leadership of the whole university including continuous education and international collaboration.
