DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
The nominee is current President of the academy responsible for all the policy matters, academic and administrative activities guiding and deciding its activities. The academy is an autonomous organization of the Government of India to carry out CME for medical students and professionals. Offers fellowships, associate Fellowships and Memberships, and awards. Carries out leadership programs, medical research training and certificate courses for over 700 Medical colleges. It guides and advises the Government of India on Medical education, research and health care policies.  it carries out Convocations and annual scientific meetings.  Promotes regional activities. it has its own medical journal (Annals of National Academy of Medical sciences) and other periodicals and newsletters. It has published various Task Force reports (about 27). It has a 15-member council, a regular administrative staff and building of its own. The academy has over 1000 fellows, over 9000 members, different standing committees and various sub committees.  
The nominee is a Senior Medical scientist, physician, teacher and researcher with over 600 publications, authorship of books, attended numerous scientific conferences, a fellow of many National and international scientific bodies and received 36 National and 7 International awards. Government of India has honoured him with the 3rd highest Civilian award (PADMASHRI) in 2020 in recognition of his contribution in Medicine in our country in the year 2020.
