Biography
Cynthia Qian is an ophthalmologist and a vitreoretinal surgeon at the University of Montreal since 2015. She is an expert on retinal dystrophy, particularly on the surgical implantation of retinal chips and prostheses. She is currently the director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory and the Pediatric Retina Service. She completed medical school at McGill University followed by residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Montreal where she was chief resident and graduating Valedictorian. She went on to complete a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary-Harvard Medical School followed by another fellowship in Retinal Dystrophy and Ocular Genetics at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. She is currently the vice-president of the Canadian Retina Society and also serves on the ophthalmology nucleus committee of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Cynthia was named one of the recipients of the Top 40 under 40 award for Canada in 2019. In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys playing the violin, reading, improving her photography, and learning new languages.
