DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Dr. Huete has been deeply engaged in international scientific affairs, notably as the founding President of the Academy of Sciences of Nicaragua, demonstrating leadership in establishing and nurturing scientific capacity within a developing nation. His active membership on the Executive Committee of the Inter-American Network of Academies of Science (IANAS) further highlights his commitment to regional scientific collaboration and policy. Moreover, during the previous term, Dr. Huete was a dedicated and contributing member of the IAP Communications, Outreach, and Education Committee, actively participating in its initiatives and bringing his extensive experience in science communication and international networking to the table. His involvement extends beyond academic expertise, showcasing a strong dedication to fostering international scientific cooperation and advancing science diplomacy on a global scale. In the IAP Communications, Education, and Outreach Committee, Dr. Huete brings strong regional networks, multilingual communication skills, and a deep understanding of science-society linkages that will support IAP’s efforts to amplify the role of member academies in science education, policy influence, and global engagement.

Dr. Jorge A. Huete-Pérez has extensive experience in scientific leadership and governance. He is the founding president of the Academy of Sciences of Nicaragua, where he later held the roles of Vice President and Foreign Secretary. He has been actively engaged in the Inter-American Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS), including service on its Executive Committee, and was a founding member and ex-officio Executive Committee adviser of the Global Young Academy. He currently serves on the IAP Communications, Outreach, and Education Committee, as well as in various US NAS Committees. He also participates in the ISC Focal Point for Latin America and the Caribbean and has contributed to the work of the ISC’s Committee for Freedom and Responsibility in Science. These roles reflect his long-standing commitment to the governance of science at national and global levels, with a particular focus on academic freedom, international cooperation, and the responsible practice of science.
