As the Vice President of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences (ZAS), Professor Gabriel Kabanda has been instrumental in shaping Zimbabwe’s scientific landscape by fostering research excellence, policy advocacy, and technological innovation. His leadership at ZAS focuses on advancing interdisciplinary collaboration, promoting investment in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and big data analytics, and strengthening national research ecosystems. He has actively championed policies that enhance research funding, digital transformation, and higher education curricula in emerging technologies, aligning Zimbabwe’s scientific agenda with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). In the global scientific arena, Professor Kabanda plays a pivotal role in policy formulation and international collaboration. His appointment by the International Science Council (ISC), the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), and the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) to review the 2019 Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) underscores his expertise in AI-driven sustainability. As a Certified Resilient Researcher and Country Co-Investigator (CCI) for Zambia and Zimbabwe in the GLOBE 2020 Project, he has contributed to cross-cultural leadership research involving 160 countries. He has fostered international scientific cooperation in AI, cybersecurity, and STEM education. He is committed to global knowledge dissemination and policy impact.
