DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:

Prof. Hak-Soo Kim, Professor Emeritus at Sogang University’s School of Communication, has demonstrated strong leadership in both academia and science policy. He served as Dean of the School of Communication (2006–2009) and the Graduate School of Mass Communication (2005–2009). From 2017 to 2022, he was a Distinguished Professor at the College of Transdisciplinary Studies, DGIST, reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary engagement.

Prof. Kim has actively contributed to domestic and international science networks. As Director of the Policy Research Institute within the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), he led efforts such as the report “A Study on Developing Policies for Enhancing the University Research Capability to Innovative Excellence in Korea,” supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning. He also convened seminars and workshops involving government agencies and research institutions to strengthen science-policy dialogue.

Internationally, Prof. Kim has played a key role in AASSA, particularly through the SHARE (Science, Health, Agriculture, Risk, Environment) Communication Special Committee. Serving as either Chair or the member for nearly a decade, he provided strategic direction and organized regional workshops to advance science communication. His familiarity with AASSA and IAP highlights his ability to contribute meaningfully to international scientific cooperation.
