DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Prof. Phoebe Koundouri has shown exceptional engagement in international academies and global affairs. As co-lead of Academia Europaea’s Task Force on Environment, Sustainability and Climate and representative to the G20 S20 Bioeconomy Task Force, she has shaped academy contributions to global sustainability dialogues. As co-lead of the IAP Scientific Committee on Human Security, and Trustee of the World Academy of Art and Science, she actively shapes global scientific dialogue. She is also a member of the Fraternal Economy of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. She served as President of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), with over 1500 institutions from 75+ countries, and now chairs the World Council of Environmental and Natural Resource Economists Associations (WCEREA). She founded AE4RIA, a research alliance linking over 200 scientists and more than 100 competitive international research projects in 120+ countries. She chairs the UN SDSN Global Climate Hub and co-chairs SDSN Europe (2,000+ university members). She has advised the UN, EC, WHO, EIB, OECD, and numerous governments, and participated in the IPCC, Lancet Commission, EIB Climate Leaders, and ERC Ambassadorship. With over 50 major international conferences organized, she bridges science with diplomacy and global policy, delivering actionable solutions.


EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP, NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
Prof. Koundouri is an elected fellow of several prestigious academies, including Academia Europaea (co-lead of the Task Force on Environment, Sustainability and Climate, and representative to the G20 S20 Bioeconomy Task Force), the World Academy of Art and Science (Trustee), the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the InterAcademy Partnership (co-leads the IAP Scientific Committee on Human Security), the Academy of Engineering and Technology of the Developing World, the European Forest Institute, and the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), where she served as 2020–21 President-Elect, 2022–23 President, and 2024–25 Past President. She is a member of the Nominating Committee for the Nobel Prize in Economics and of the Fraternal Economy of Integral and Sustainable Development of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and received the Academy of Athens Award for Scientific Excellence.
