DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:

Thomas Krieg is an internationally renowned dermatologist and Senior Professor at the University of Cologne. His research focuses on impaired wound healing, autoimmune diseases, inflammation, and connective tissue, and he has received numerous awards for his scientific achievements, including the Max Planck Research Award and election to the Leopoldina National Academy of Sciences. Krieg has decades of experience in academic leadership and science governance. As Vice President of the Leopoldina, he plays a key role in shaping the Academy’s national and international activities, with a particular focus on the interfaces between science and politics. He represents the Leopoldina at the Federation of European Academies of Medicine (FEAM), where he is a member of the Council, and actively contributes to discussions on emerging global health issues.

Krieg has also been a committed member of the IAP Policy Advice Committee since 2022, contributing his expertise in identifying and prioritizing policy needs for scientific issues. With this nomination, he expresses his commitment to continuing this service in a second term. His background, experience in governance, and strong involvement in international science-policy bodies make him a highly qualified candidate aligned with IAP’s vision and goals.
