DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Professor Manna as the Vice President of INSA (Science & Society) is responsible for (i) steering and monitoring the prestigious DST-funded INSA-INSPIRE scheme for faculty fellows (post-doctorate applicants for faculty positions) that covers all science and engg disciplines and benefits several hundred researchers each year; (ii) raising suitable nominations from the most eminent public figures from industry, academia, and society for election to the Fellowship of INSA under a special category for (a) science in translation, and (b) science for society; (iii) running a special scheme for providing partial travel support to scientists for attending international conferences, (iv) proving active guidance to run the unique program called "Leadership in Science (LEADS)" meant to mentor young professionals in administrative and leadership positions, and (v) launching special scheme on national and international policy matters. As the Former President of INAE, he played a crucial role in making INAE both financially and functionally autonomous, and leading INAE delegation to Korea, France, Finland, Germany, and USA. He visited and collaborated with renowned institutions like the Max Planck Inst at Stuttgart, Tech University of Clausthal, Liverpool Univ, Nanyang Technological Univ (Singapore), Univ of Tennessee (USA) and University of Ulm (Germany). He was both a DAAD and Humboldt Fellow in Germany. He was a member of the Governing Body of Indo US Science and Technology Forum.
