Biography

Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and Professor at the University of São Paulo, where he was an associate professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics. He graduated in Physics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. His research field is in numerical analysis.

Born in Cachoeira do Sul (RS) in 1938, Marco Antonio Raupp divided his career between academic activities and the management of science and technology institutions, being a strong advocate of the integration between research institutions and industry.

He was a researcher and director of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE / MCTI) and the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC). As member of INPE’s board he participated in the negotiations that resulted in the CBERS program in cooperation with China. While at the institute, could deploy in record time the Integration Test Lab. In LNCC, he created the Bioinformatics Laboratory. Both are considered cutting edge technology, used by researchers and industry.

He was one of the mentors of the Technological Park of São José dos Campos creation, which he headed from 2006 to 2011, acting decisively to implement innovative projects.

He was president and director of the Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC). He is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and was a member of the Supreme Council of the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ).

He chaired the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), the institution that brought his vast experience in issues of politics and space technology. He also integrated the Board of Alcantara Cyclone Space (ACS).

He was a member of the National Council of Science and Technology (CCT), Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Strategic Studies and Management (CGEE), member of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Association for Synchrotron Light Technology (ABTLuS), all member institutions of the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation.

He is Commander of the Rio Branco Order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Grã-Cruz of the National Order of Scientific Merit of the Republican Presidency and Officer of the Order of Merit of the Armed Forces.
