DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Prof Dr ASM Matiur Rahman is an eminent Medical Microbiologist and founder of the Department of Microbiology in various institutions. He had also been directly involved in the teaching profession in Pathology. Apart from his involvement in teaching he had also been actively involved in the post graduate academic activities of the national and international institutions like Dhaka University (DU), Bangladesh Medical University, Gono Bishwabiddalaya, Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS), College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), International Center for Diahorreal Diseases and Research (ICDDR’B), National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine and other medical institutions. He helped in producing a good number of meritorious Fellows (FCPS) and postgraduate qualified specialists in different branches of Pathology.
Under his guidance 98 blood transfusion centers have been established in the country for Safe Blood Transfusion as Chairman, Blood Transfusion Sub-Committee (BTSC) of National AIDS Committee. He played pivotal role in finalizing legislation on Safe Blood Transfusion, which has been accepted by the Govt. His role in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS in the country. As Advisor (Minister) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Water Resources & Religious Affairs, he had immensely contributed in the various national and international activities and hence plays an important roles in capacity building on various institutions.
