Pál Maurovich-Horvat
Pál Maurovich-Horvat, MD, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Group at the Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Maurovich-Horvat was graduated from the Semmelweis University in 2006, completed his residency at Heart and Vascular Center of the Semmelweis University, which was followed by a three-year long cardiovascular imaging research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Maurovich-Horvat studied clinical effectiveness at the Harvard University, School of Public Health, where he graduated in 2012. When he has returned to Hungary, he was appointed to create a new cardiac imaging clinical program at the Semmelweis University. As the director of both clinical and research programs, Dr. Maurovich-Horvat is mentoring three residents, six medical students and three PhD students. He is the founder and the director of the Semmelweis CT Academy, which is a popular international hands-on training program for cardiologists and radiologists. His research interest focuses on the development of new diagnostic strategies to identify high-risk coronary plaques. Recently, he and his team have successfully completed a unique research project on Hungarian twins to better understand genetic and environmental influences in development of coronary atherosclerotic plaques. Dr. Maurovich-Horvat is the recipient of one of the most prestigious scientific grant in Hungary, the "Momentum" grant of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
