Current position: employed as a senior lecturer in the Department of Medicine university of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and a Consultant physician in general medicine at the professorial medical unit at the Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya.
Hold a special interest for diabetes and endocrinologyResearch interests: diabetes and obesity
Current research: use of indigenous foods and medicinal preparations in the management of diabetes. At present supervises an RCT on the same topic.
University education and post graduate qualifications: passed the MBBS in 1998, trained in general medicine and passed the MD (Colombo) in 2005. Passed the MRCP (UK) in 2006. Trained in general medicine, diabetes and endocrinology at the Kings Mill hospital, Nottinghamshire UK For 2 years from 2006-2008.
Community development and building: Run a diabetes clinic at the university hospital.
Currently the president of the local Diabetes Association which helps the local community with diabetes.
Medical education: teach medical and dental students clinical medicine. Presently involved in the development of a manual on diabetes management for medical students of Sri Lanka, sponsored by the WHO.
