DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
During his tenure in Global Young Academy (GYA), Tomislav Mestrovic has co-led the Global Migration and Human Rights working group, leading impactful activities including study visits to Bangladesh and Georgia, which focused on education access, displacement and youth engagement in post-crisis settings. These experiences strengthened his perspective on interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral dialogue and the importance of amplifying voices from underrepresented regions. As a previous Editor-at-Large of Connections, GYA’s flagship magazine, Tomislav shaped narratives that connect science, society and policy, ensuring diverse global perspectives were represented. Currently, he co-leads the Outputs Review Committee (ORC), where he helps to ensure the scientific and strategic quality of GYA’s outputs, reinforcing the organization’s credibility as a global voice for young researchers. Internationally, Tomislav serves in leadership roles with the American Society for Microbiology (Chair of CHOMA Committee), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (Chair of External Affairs Committee), EURESTOP (Stakeholder Coordinator), also leading projects on the global burden of disease and supporting World Health Organization. He is a Director of the University Health Metrics Centre in Croatia. These experiences have equipped him with a nuanced understanding of cross-cultural collaboration, capacity building, policy advocacy and science communication at the global level.

EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP, NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
Tomislav Mestrovic has been active in the GYA as co-lead of Global Migration and Human Rights working group, leading several impactful projects, as co-lead of the Outputs Review Committee, and as former Editor-at-Large of the GYA’s annual magazine, Connections. He is also one of the leads of Croatian Young Academy Initiative. He has also demonstrated leadership and fundraising experience as the Global Coordinator for Country Representatives of Health Information for All (HIFA), a UK-based NGO, where he contributed to proposal development and supporting HIFA's fundraising efforts. This included co-developing and disseminating action briefs for the WHO Global Learning Laboratory for Quality UHC, which were used to attract further engagement and interest from ministries and health systems stakeholders. As departmental coordinator for international cooperation at University North, he has assisted colleagues in academic funding applications and participated in capacity building efforts.
