Prof. Mohammad Reza Shams Ardekani is currently Professor of Pharmacy at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He holds his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Esfahan Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Esfahan, Iran, and his PhD in pharmacy from the University of Bradford, UK.

He acts as Secretary of the Academy of Sciences of IR Iran, and Secretary of the Committee of Islamic and Iranian Culture and Civilization, Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution. He is an Associate Member of the Academy of Sciences of IR Iran and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences of IR Iran. He was senior adviser to the President for the past two years and the executive vice president of the Academy during 2002-2006. Prof. Shams Ardekani has also served as the secretary of the Joint Secretariat of the Academies of IR Iran for a term. He was dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Kerman University of Medical Sciences and dean of Faculty of Traditional Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
