DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
It is with the greatest enthusiasm and pleasure that I nominate Antonio Egidio Nardi, MD, PhD for appointment as a member of the Policy Advice Development and Programme Committee of the IAP. The Academic Nardi has been a Full Member of the National Academy of Medicine (Brazil) since 2012, and he is currently our Vice-President (2024-2025). He was Secretary General (2015-2017) and Vice-President (2017-2019). I can certainly confirm that Nardi is a person totally dedicated to the administration and scientific planning of our academy. He has been a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences since 2020, working in the dissemination of science in the medical field and since 2023 he has participated as a member of the selection committee for new candidates for the Academy. Visiting Professor of the Università Degli Studi di Cagliari (Italy) since 2017 and the Università Degli Studi di Firenze (Italy) since 2019. A prominent figure in the Brazilian Psychiatric Association, he has shaped national policy and practice. He also provides pro bono care at outpatient clinics, ensuring underserved populations receive quality psychiatric treatment. Nardi is distinguished record of scientific achievement, leadership, and compassionate clinical service makes him an outstanding candidate for this prestigious membership.
EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP, NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
Antonio Egidio Nardi has been a Full Member of the National Academy of Medicine (Brazil) since 2012, and is currently Vice-President (2024-2025). He was Secretary General (2015-2017) and Vice-President (2017-2019), always dedicating himself to the dissemination of medical knowledge and advising the Brazilian government on different aspects of public health. He is a senior member of the Brazilian Psychiatric Association and Full Professor and Chair of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since 2010. He is Full member of the Brazilian Academy of Military Medicine since 2023, Honorary Member of the Academia Fides et Ratio since 2021 and of the Brazilian Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine since 2023. International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has been treating patients with anxiety disorders, resistant depression and bipolar disorder free of charge for over 40 years at the Institute of Psychiatry of the Federal University of Rio.
