Biography

A Ugandan Professor of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, an academician, medical researcher, a Fellow and President of Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS), and an external affiliate of US National Academy of Medicine. He is the Chair of the UNAS Forum on Urbanization and has been at the forefront of consensus studies on owning our future on Urbanization in Uganda, in East Africa, and in Africa. He has a passion for advancing health and addressing health inequities in Africa. Prof. Sewankambo was one of the earliest physicians (early eighties) in Uganda to recognize the new “Slim Disease” that caused patients to lose weight and "slim" down to abnormal cachectic sizes and became known as HIV/AIDS. He has devoted his last 20 years of professional life to the advancement of medical education, research, and capacity development.
