Biography

Dr Nomathemba Chandiwana is a public health physciain and researcher, employed as Technical Advisor, Child and Adolescent Health at the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa. Nomathemba works to strengthen health systems and accelerate access to testing, treatment and support for children and adolescents living with HIV. She also works as a medical officer at Harriet Shezi Children’s Clinic– a large urban tertiary level infectious disease clinic supporting perinatally HIV-infected children and adolescents who are failing second and third antiretroviral regimens. She obtained a BSc in Behavioural Neuroscience from the Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusstes. And then went on to study medicine and Master of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. She is currently studying towards a PhD in Public and Population Health and is a fellow with the Consortium of Research Training Africa (CARTA). Her current research area of interest is investigating virological failure, barriers to adherence and retention in care among HIV-infected adolescents.
