Dr M. Olatokunboh Odubanjo (Tokunboh Odubanjo) graduated with an MBBS from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria in the year 2000.
She completed residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria in January 2009.She obtained the prestigious fellowship of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) to do a one year fellowship in Renal Pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, USA from November 2009 to October of 2010.
Dr Odubanjo has also obtained further training in Pathology at other reputable overseas institutions including the Mayo Clinics in Arizona and Minnesota.
She presently works as a lecturer and Consultant pathologist at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Lagos, Nigeria where she has roles in clinical research, the diagnostic sign-out of Renal Pathology and other Surgical Pathology cases, Cytopathology, Autopsy pathology, the training of resident doctors and the teaching of medical students. Her research interests are in the areas of Renal Pathology (neoplastic and non-neoplastic renal diseases) and Genitourinary oncology.
Her ongoing research projects include studies of HIV-associated nephropathy, hypertension associated renal changes and Cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma. Dr Odubanjo pioneered the use of the assay of Immunoglobulins and complement components in diagnostic Renal Pathology in her institution, LUTH, Nigeria thus ensuring that the Anatomic pathology diagnostic service at LUTH is appropriately equipped for its position as the center of excellence and referral centre for Renal Pathology in Nigeria as a whole.
