DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Professor Gianfranco Pacchioni has been a Fellow of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei since 2014. Over the years, he has actively contributed to numerous Academy initiatives, including serving on Lincei task forces for the development of Science20 joint statements. He has also been a distinguished speaker at many of our conferences and seminars, sharing his expertise and insights with Fellow members.
Currently, he plays a key role in the Lincei Committee on Europe ('Commissione Europa'), which focuses on strengthening relationships between European institutions. His contributions continue to be instrumental in advancing the Committee's mission.
In addition, Professor Pacchioni is engaged in science outreach through the national initiative 'Lincei per la scuola' (Lincei for School), helping to promote scientific knowledge and education.
His expertise and dedication make him a valuable asset to the Academy and its initiatives.


EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP, NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
Gianfranco Pacchioni has represented the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in the network of science academies, prior to its merger with the academies of medicine and engineering to form the IAP. In 2020 and 2021, he played a key role in discussions on a new set of statutes for the IAP on behalf of Lincei.
During the General Assembly held in Arizona from November 1-3, 2022, he was elected to the IAP Board as a representative of high-income countries within the new structure. Since then, he has been an active Board member of IAP, serving as co-chair of both the "Communication, Education, and Outreach" committee and the "Membership" committee.
Beyond his contributions to the IAP, Gianfranco Pacchioni is deeply engaged in science communication and public outreach. He has authored several books aimed at popularizing science and has delivered hundreds of talks on the impact of science on society. Additionally, he is a member of Academia Europaea and the European Academy of Sciences.
