DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
As a co-founder of the Global Young Academy (GYA) and the Thai Young Scientists Academy (TYSA), and a seasoned leader in the global scientific community, Wibool Piyawattanametha has demonstrated a deep commitment to promoting science for the greater good. His involvement in addressing global scientific challenges, such as combating misinformation with the National Academy of Sciences and Engineering (NASEM) and serving on the UNEP-ISC Foresight Expert Panel, speaks to his proactive approach to advancing global science. His contributions have been recognized by prominent institutions, including the World Economic Forum and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His experience in promoting international collaboration, including his role in the Academic Security and Counter Exploitation (ASCE) program and co-founding the Research Security Consortium in Southeast Asia with the U.S. State Department, showcases his dedication to fostering secure and collaborative research environments. He has been honoured as a fellow of SPIE (2021) and the ISC (2023), highlighting his influence and leadership in the global scientific community. His extensive leadership experience, international collaborations, and successful fundraising efforts position him well to make effective contributions to IAP leadership. 


EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP, NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
Wibool co-founded the GYA in 2010 and actively contributed to its development, serving on its Executive Committee in 2012. He was a key member of the inaugural Global State of Young Scientists (GloSYS) ASEAN project, published in 2017. He served on the Nominations and Elections Committee and the Membership Selection Committee, which exercise core functions of the organization. He has extensive leadership and fundraising experience within and beyond the GYA, including: - AI & Robotics Training for Underprivileged Education (2019-2020): US$100,000 from a philanthropic foundation in Thailand; Remote Monitoring Systems for COVID-19 (2020-2022): US$150,000 from the Asian Development Bank; AI-based Remote Vital Signs Monitoring Systems (2021-2022): US$250,000 from the World Health Organization (WHO). These experiences demonstrate his ability to secure substantial funding for global scientific and educational projects, showcasing his commitment to capacity building and innovation.
