DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:

Professor Abubakar Sambo is the President of The Nigerian Academy of Science, having just served as the Vice President for 4 years. His election as President is a testament to his longstanding commitment to the Academy. 

Professor Sambo has served the Academy in many critical roles, at various times, such as being Academic Secretary (overseeing the election of new Fellows of the Academy), the chairman of the Headquarters Development Commitment, and chairman of the NAS Scientific Conference Committee. He commits significant time and effort to serving the Academy and voluntarily too. 

Professor Sambo's long history of commitment and service to the Academy, since his election as a Fellow of NAS in 2002, contributed to his election as President in 2025.
