DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Professor Separovic has served with distinction during her current term on the IAP Advisory Committee, demonstrating steady leadership, diplomatic acumen and deep scientific insight to advance IAP’s mission. As Foreign Secretary of the Academy since 2022, Prof. Separovic has played a pivotal role in strengthening the Academy’s international partnerships, including those with the IAP, AASSA, and the International Science Council (ISC). She has recently been appointed as Chair of AASSA’s Special Committee for Women in Science and Engineering (WISE). Prof. Separovic has represented the Academy at numerous high-level international forums, ensuring that Australia’s scientific voice is part of global dialogues on pressing challenges. Under her guidance, the Academy has contributed meaningfully to IAP-led projects, including initiatives on science advice, sustainable development, and the role of academies in helping shape a more sustainable, inclusive, and informed global future. In 2025, she was appointed co-chair of the ISC Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific. Her support for interdisciplinary collaboration and her ability to bridge scientific, cultural and geographic boundaries are hallmarks of her leadership.

Professor Separovic’s engagement with the Australian Academy of Science spans many years. Elected a Fellow of the Academy in 2012, she has been a prominent and active contributor to the Academy’s strategic activities, and her leadership has had a particularly strong impact in the areas of governance, international engagement, and diversity and inclusion. As Foreign Secretary of the Academy since 2022, Professor Separovic has played a pivotal role in strengthening the Academy’s international partnerships, including those with the IAP, the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA), and the International Science Council (ISC).
