DESCRIPTION OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE ACADEMY'S ACTIVITIES OR IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Chibuike Udenigwe has demonstrated strong commitment to advancing science, and his significant contributions have received global recognition, e.g., as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellow of the American Chemical Society-Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, and Fellow of the African Academy of Sciences. He has experience and knowledge of global science policy. As a Faculty Affiliate at the Institute for Science Society and Policy (ISSP), he has fostered public engagement on the governance of STI and served on ISSP’s I-Horizons Steering Committee that developed the institute’s strategic direction.
Chibuike has engaged with the public on policy, science advice, and innovations towards sustainable food systems through print and TV media, and as a GYA representative panellist in public forums organized by IAP, NASAC, ASSAf, and MAST, including two IAP forums on “Impact of climate change on food systems” (2022) and “Regional perspectives on the role of STI for transforming food systems” (2021). The involvement in 2024 led to the development of food security recommendations by MAST for Mauritius.
Finally, Chibuike has contributed to the global food science community through leadership roles in scientific societies (e.g., IUFoST/IAFoST Academy Early Career and Mid-Career Societies). He was elected to AOCS Governing Board, after serving in various positions.


EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES IN AN IAP, NATIONAL ACADEMY OR OTHER SCIENTIFIC ORGANIZATION'S GOVERNING BODY:
As a member of the Global Young Academy, Chibuike Udenigwe has worked particularly with the Science Advice and the Science Diplomacy in Africa working groups. He has served on the Executive Committee (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary-Treasurer over 8 years in office) of the American Oil Chemists Society (AOCS) Protein and Co-product Division, and as Vice-Chair of the Canadian Section of AOCS, raising funds in support of the Section's scientific meetings, awards, and programs. In a research fundraising capacity, he has raised over $2 million CAD in external research grants and contracts, from governments agencies and food industry partners, as a principal investigator, since starting his independent career in 2012.
