Biography

Dr. Bach Tran is a lecturer in Health Economics at Hanoi Medical University in Vietnam. His research interests primarily focus on applying decision analytic modeling to inform the development and evaluation of health technologies and policies. He has been intensively working with UN agencies, international organizations, and governments on global health and development issues in South-East Asia. Much of his work centers on determining cost-effective interventions, assessing health technologies, and strengthening health systems, particularly related to HIV/AIDS and emerging diseases in the region.
Dr. Bach Tran earned his BSc in Public Health from Hanoi School of Public Health, Vietnam (2006), and a PhD in Health Policy from the University of Alberta, Canada (2011). During his doctoral training, he was awarded the Charles WB Gravett Memorial Scholarship for superior academic achievement in health care planning and evaluation. His doctoral work aimed to examine the cost-effectiveness of scaling up methadone and antiretroviral treatment in injection-driven HIV epidemics. He also received an Alberta Innovates - Health Solutions award for his postdoctoral studies which evaluated the lifetime outcomes and return-on-investment for population health interventions for the prevention of obesity. Dr. Bach Tran completed a postgraduate certificate program at Johns Hopkins University (2011), and was an ASEAN Research Scholar at National University of Singapore (2008).
