NASAC, the Network of African Science Academies, with funding by the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) through their GenderInSITE project, has published this Workshop Report on "Mainstreaming Gender in Science Education". The report is based on the workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, in May 2015, which discussed how mainstreaming gender in science education can be achieved in the African context.
The workshop had seven substantive sessions, and discussions were in the form of twelve Power Point presentations, nine plenary sessions, and group discussions. The group discussions comprised of a World Café activity, a talk show, and group deliberations.
On the basis of existing good practices a plan of action was developed how to mainstream gender in science, and strategies to incorporate women at all levels of decision-making were developed. The Workshop developed numerous recommendations, e.g. on how to increase the participation of girls in science and how NASAC could promote gender empowerment, which can all be found in the workshop report.
